D23 - A Look at Walt Disney Studios' Upcoming Animation Slate
Saturday marked the massive Walt Disney Studios panel, which brought lots of footage. In fact, pretty much only footage, along with a couple of announcements and staged bits. Some Q&A would have been nice, but apparently, Disney can't handle wild cards like "people" so there was very little room for spontaneity. Still, we saw some interesting stuff, so to jump start our Saturday coverage, here are my impressions of what Walt Disney Studios Animation had to offer.
PLANES
First up was Planes, a film that takes place in (or as the teaser points out, "above") the Cars Universe. The director's father was an aviator, which sits nicely with the Pixar folk as they loves them some authenticity. The main character is Dusty, voiced by Jon Crier, who appeared on stage to talk about what an honor it had been to work with Pixar on this project - "Every so often I get an email that says I have a Planes session and I'm like ::cue guttural sounds of joy::". John Lasseter, present to run the whole Animation portion of the show, gave some insight into the work of a voice over actor on a Pixar film. He explained that the lead actor would typically come in for 10 sessions over the course of two years, and it's not uncommon for the character to design to change with every session, as it is molded and transformed by the actor's performance. The teaser clip was cute enough and I can say without hesitation that this *will* be a movie I go in theaters, unlike Cars 2, because flying through the air in 3D makes me a happy.
More after the jump!

STUFFED TALKING DUG [WANT]

Find out what's on the canine mind with our ''Up'' Talking Dug Plush Toy. This soft and fuzzy stuffed toy dog can really talk from a faux ''radio'' collar when you squeeze his left paw. While his funny thoughts may be taken quite literally, you'll have to decide for yourself when to give this Dug stuffed toy a hug. This big and friendly canine Dug is one of the stars of Disney/Pixar's animated adventure, Up. Imported.

Up Makes Me Happier [Photo}

I know this picture is old news, but I just saw Up and it took my breath away. Laughing and crying for 90 minutes straight. Hands down best movie I've seen yet this year. I'll call it now - Best Picture nomination. Just saying.
By the way, if anyone comes across either a stuffed, talking Dug or a statue with Kevin asleep on one foot over sleeping Dug...please link me so I can buy them for myself. I just won't spend money on food that week. Done and done.

Caturday Cool Shit [Woot!]
As some of you may know, I renamed the days of the week a couple days ago. So Saturday is now officially Caturday. On this Caturday, I am randomly watching Brand Upon the Brain with david and it may be the strangest movie I've ever seen. But we had to pause it so he could watch the Rangers game...gar....
So to keep myself entertained, I am posting the coolest things I found on the web today and I'm calling it Caturday Cool Shit.
First up, from Slashfilm, first discovered on 4chan (p.s. I randomly spent a chunk of last night explaining what 4chan was to various folks) - what the Finding Nemo & Wall-E characters would look like if they were humans. I'm OBSESSED with these.

Look at how cute Wall-E is!!! He is so dirty and goofy and adorable and sweet!! And Eve is so hip and pretty! I can't deal with these. They're brilliant! Moar Moar!

Oh look! MOAR! Finding Nemo, this time! I love these. I don't know what to do with myself. Someone make more please! Thank you, Slashfilm, for discovering these. Because Pixar characters as humans > Rangers game.
Next up is oddly also connected to a conversation I had last night. Chatting about 4chan led to looking up the Internet Meme Timeline, which led to talking about David at the Dentist. Which brings me to this, from Think Geek, via Geekologie,

Yes please. Yes I will take that. Is this real life?
Finally, a link to Erik Lundegaard's blog. He's been counting down the movie lines he quotes the most. For each quote is an explanation - what about the line secures its place in Lundedaard's arsenal and in what context he busts it out. I absolutely recommend checking it out. Hrmm...maybe I'll try to figure out my own list one of these days...
Okay, ACTUALLY finally, go to Jimmy Fallon's website and sign the petition for a Saved By The Bell Reunion. Just scroll down a bit. What? You don't CARE about a Saved By The Bell Reunion?! Well...watch this and then see if you are able to spout such blasphemy.
Okay. End Caturday Cool Shit. Time to drink coffee! See full post
