Three Year Old Plays Mirror's Edge & Poral And Everyone Wins

A. No, there is nothing wrong with this. All it means is he is gonna be an awesome gamer.
B. The commenters can go eff themselves
C. This kid is awesome
D. The dad has a cool accent
E. HOW DOES THE KID UNDERSTAND THIS STUFF ALREADY? LIKE JUMPING TO ANOTHER LEDGE AND SHIT? IS HE A GENIUS? IS THIS REAL?
F. I personally don't know anyone under the age of 30 who still plays games on a PC. The fact that this kid is so good at it at age 3 gives PC gamers everywhere hope for a new tomorrow. Maybe?

Children's Choir Sings Still Alive. I Am Happy.

My favorite part of this is imagining what's going through the parents heads. The geeks are no doubt on cloud nine, but what about the parents who have never heard of Portal? What's this song about guns and being ripped to pieces and cake?!? Huh?? All of our children should be so lucky as to sing this song with a bunch of other kids in a public forum! Badass to the nth degree.

I found out recently, and I forget how (but it was probably via The Daily What aka the best website ever created) that this site, PicClick.com, allows for visual searches of Ebay, and now, Etsy. So from time to time I'm gonna type in some geek keyword and see what comes up.

Meet the Team

Here is a continuing example of a game developer being truly in love with their game. Developer Valve (Portal, Half-Life) have been periodically releasing machinima promoting Team Fortress 2, a first-person shooter multiplayer game. Each video introduces one of the character classes that you can play in the game by giving you a sort of day-in-the-life. Christopher Guest-ish biopic of him. The game has an awesome classic spy movie vibe, and the cast is full of delightfully tongue-in-cheek stereotypes. I wish more developers took the time (or had the money to take the time) to do stuff like this. It gets you excited about the game all over again. Thank the gods that Valve were the ones who scooped up the people who made Portal, or we may have never gotten as much fangirl/boy love from that game as we have.

Portal Cosplay

This one's for you, LQ and Erudite. Some guy, obviously in full support of his girlfriend's cosplay habit, BUILT her an Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device.

Every year, around late August or so, I tell myself "This year, I'm a-gonna assemble the greatest video game Halloween costume ever...assembled!" That proclamation then evolves into "You know what? Maybe I'll get into cosplay, too! It looks so fun!", but ultimately settles into the dust with a "What time is it? Man, I have work to do."

Best costume I ever made? I was pretty happy with my Mario in 2005 and my Wayne Campbell in... 1998. What about you guys? Best costume ever. Go.

Portal was an essentially flawless new experience in action-puzzle gaming. So what game do you give that Portal fanatic in your life? Try some of these brain-tickling gems for the thinking gamer...
Braid*(XBox 360) - A surprisingly thought-provoking retelling of the classic Mario-style, mixed in with the power of time manipulation. It's the top-rated XBox Live Arcade game ever.
Echochrome*(PS3, PSP) - Like playing an Escher painting. Gloriously minimalist in its art and music.

The Guitar Hero
Your options for music games have exploded from the once-simple "Guitar Hero or Guitar Hero 2?" decision. Of course, you have your Rock Band, Rock Band 2, and Guitar Hero World Tour, but perhaps your gift-recipient wants to put the plastic axe down? Try one of these...
Patapon*(PSP) - A tribe of cyclops warriors attempt to regain their former glory, and you are there god, communicating through drum patterns. Infectious.
Audiosurf*(PC) - It's like Tron fused with your music collection. Load any song in your library into the game and play it as an original level!

The Final Fantasy Fanatic
Life is hard for a Final Fantasy player; you only get a major new Final Fantasy every few years. Fortunately, it has been a pretty good year for Role Playing Gamers, if they are willing to branch out...
Mass Effect (PC, XBox 360) - Technically, this game was released last year, but it still deserves some love. An RPG set in a Star Trek-ish universe. Don't be frightened by the action, shooter gameplay. There's plenty of familiar stat upgrading and side quests to make you feel right at home.
Fallout 3 (PC, PS3, XBox 360) - More shooting here, but in a post-apocalyptic Washington DC stuck in a 1950's aesthetic.
Chrono Trigger (DS) - I'm cheating again. This is an old SNES classic, but it was just re-released for the DS! Plus, it's a Squaresoft (Final Fantasy developer) game. Be prepared. The look and sound are thoroughly retro.
Valkyria Chronicles*(PS3) - Much closer to the Final Fantasy player's heart. A true epic Japanese RPG with a unique art style and strategic gameplay.

The Lego Gamer
The Lego series from Traveler's Tales has produced a slew of cutesy remakes of classics - Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Batman - but if this is growing stale for the gamer who likes casual, stress-free play, try these...
LittleBigPlanet (PS3) - On the surface, a fun, relaxing, four-player platforming adventure with cute bean-bag characters. When you get tired of the basics, though, there are powerful tools for creating your own levels and machines, as well as a whole online community of others' levels.
The Katamari series*(iPhone, PS2, PSP, XBox 360) - Described by many as the happiest game you'll ever play. Essentially, you just roll a ball around and roll up objects, growing from the size of a paperclip to rolling up entire planets. With an adorable, kooky style and a catchy soundtrack, it's, simply-put, smiles in a box.

The Halo Junkie
Your friend plays Halo... a lot. If he/she isn't playing Halo 3, first get him/her up to speed. Halo 3 is the best in the series and really lives up to the hype. However, if you're sick of the addiction, try to wean your friend onto one of these shooters...
Far Cry 2 (PC, PS3, XBox 360) - A huge open world shooter. Perhaps not revolutionary, but the gorgeous world is something to be experienced.
Left 4 Dead (PC, XBox 360) - Personally, I hate zombies, so I can't go near this game. However, it's essentially a zombie team-survival situation generator. Endless replayability with a team of four friends online.

Well Hello Beautiful

Oh hello there! My name is Teddy, and I have a story for you...
Once upon a time, there was a young boy who played a ton of videogames. Like, a ton. That young boy then grew up, and continued to play said games. Also, he makes them now.

I didn't promise it would be a great story. Anyway, I have been graciously invited to join in on the fangirl/boy-ing at All Things Fangirl. If you hadn't gathered from the engrossing tale above, I am a game designer and, perhaps more relevantly, a gamer. I'll be posting a good deal about said games and other observations I've been known to make. Good to be here!

Gingerbread Companion Cube?!!?! [WANT]

Oh happy, joyous day!

A very important fact about everyone here at All Things Fangirl - we all love Portal. Thus, we all love the Companion Cube. So when I followed a link today from Topless Robot about geeky gingerbread creations and saw this beauty, I freaked out a wee bit.



Hawt. If anyone is thinking of making me one, I support that decision.
