Geeky Ringtones For You?

Because I said so

Tonight, @Brotodeau created an Inception ringtone and posted it on Twitter for all to download. This resulted in me downloading it. It was awesome. Afterwards, I got inspired and decided to experiment with my new droid and its ringtone capabilities. I don't know what the rules are for iphones and what not, but these will CERTAINLY work for a Droid or a Blackberry. Here they my geektastic experiments.

So How Does Katee Sackhoff Feel About Her Last Scene on Battlestar?

This past weekend at Starfest, we were treated to an hour Q&A with Starbuck herself, Katee Sackhoff. A lot of questions I had got answered, as did a lot of questions I didn't have. She is awesome. Here's what we learned!

- Her response to Starbuck's ending with Lee: "Really?" She thinks, half-joking, that they didn't know how to end Starbuck's story so they just had her disappear.

- She was upset with the way her character ended, didn't feel like she had closure. To remedy this, she adlibbed the line "I love you" to Anders, in their last scene together. This way, Katee felt like Kara was going to be safe in the end - that she was on the same plane as Sam and would be going to him when she was finished on Earth. Aw.

- Yes, Starbuck loved Lee. She was "obsessed" with Lee. With Anders, she had a "grown up love." Was easy for her to play the pain of saying goodbye to him.

- What does Katee think Starbuck was? "I tend to think she was an angel of some sort."

- Katee thinks the only character as flawed as Kara was Baltar

- When asked who was the best kisser, she responded "I have no idea...[But I did get to] make out with everyone! Everyone but Tahmoh, which is funny cause he's a good friend of mine. And Gaeta. Cause he's gay."

- On getting to make out with everyone, "You're kind of like a hooker. You go to work, you cheat on your significant other and you get paid for it."

- She was friends with Michael Trucco's fiance, so that was weird. Katee would think "You can't hate me! I got paid for it!"

- Which actors did he most enjoy working with? "Eddie" for the scene where Kara tells Adama she was responsible for Zack's death. Katee thought he was really gonna hit her and then realized "a little late" in the acting game that you really have to be in the moment in a scene and it becomes much better. Also Tricia, cause they became best friends. Katee says Tricia is "the biggest badass I've ever met." Their fight scene in season one marked the day they became friends. She also loved working with Mary, because they could hardly ever keep from laughing. She loved working with Tahmoh because "we're crazy" and Rekha because they always try to one up each other with dirty jokes.

- Originally, during the scene where Starbuck jumps the fleet to Earth in the finale and Roslin asks "Where did you take us, Starbuck?" she was supposed to respond "Somewhere all along the watchtower." Katee got through it once, but then couldn't keep it together and she and Mary kept laughing when they tried to get the line. They ended up cutting it :). Good choice.

- Katee thought it was hilarious that "Captain Tight Pants" and Starbuck were cast in a movie together (White Noise 2)

- She thinks Starbuck would beat Mal in a fight cause "She'd just shoot him."

- "Nathan [Fillion] is fantastic"

- Since Nathan & Tricia Helfer used to date years ago, Katee thought it was hilarious meeting him, cause she already knew so much about him

- Nathan knew the name of every single crew member, which inspired Katee to try and do the same

- Nathan also got Katee to quit smoking! She says if you ever need to quit, to ask Nathan the story he told Katee Sackhoff.

- Katee auditioned for Castle and it was the "worst audition of my life." Afterwards, Nathan told her "It's okay, Katee, don't worry about it" cause it was fairly obvious how terrible she was, haha.

- Katee enjoyed every second of working on Nip/Tuck, but it wasn't her show, so she left in the hopes of finding a role on a show that spoke to her more. She found that in Tessa Cooper, on the new show "Lost and Found"

- Rose McGowen is replacing Katee on Nip/Tuck. Katee didn't seem to happy about the replacement choice, but stayed polite about it, not commenting on how she felt about the situation.

- Katee went to Six Flags with Seth Green and they bought capes and ran around and were big kids all day. Aw, I wanna do that!

- She was raised Catholic, but isn't religious

- In 2003, had to pick between doing Battlestar and NCIS. "It worked out." :)

- When shooting Battlestar she went home on the weekends, which was very difficult on her relationship. So she wanted to either switch to movies or find a TV show that shot in LA. She found that plus a great script in Lost and Found

- She hopes she is still working when she's 50

- She has three tattoos and is getting the two on her back removed. I didn't hear what the first tattoo says, but one says Choice & another says Public Property (in another language I think).

- "The hangover is twice as bad if you smoke"

- Sigourney Weaver was a role model of Katee's when she was a kid

- "I've never really been that messed up" Re: young hollywood starlets getting out of control. She was raised very well.

- On why she won't go to DragonCon. Cause over labor day they get five days off and "I wanna go to Mexico and get drunk!"

- It was always difficult for Katee to cry on camera, whereas Grace Park could do it all the time, with great ease. So whenever Katee cried on camera and "It doesn't look like I have to go to the bathroom," she's really happy.

- Her mom says she was a big ham as a kid, though Katee was planning on being a professional swimmer (ah HAH! A swimmer! That explains her broad shoulders and overall swimmer's body!) and getting a full ride to college to pursue that career, but when she got injured, it threw her college plans out the window. So she decided to go into acting, as it didn't require a college education. The more she got into it, the more unattainable it seemed and thus, the more she wanted to succeed.

- Got her first role when she went on an audition to play Kristin Dunst's body double in a Lifetime movie. She was too tall, but got cast in actual role. She moved to LA, the director introduced her to her agent, now manager, and was Taft Hartleyed into SAG. She still doesn't know what a Taft Hartley is.

- On day one of working on BSG, she & Olmos were told that Starbuck & Adama were definitely not Cylons.

- Went to great lengths to look skinny on stage, haha. She credits it to her shoes.

And that about does it! Overall it was a great panel. She's incredibly charming and funny and bold and I can definitely tell why she & Aaron Douglas may or may not get along...but that's a tale for another time.

Heading to Starfest! [Event]

Heading off to Starfest in Denver for tonight and tomorrow and will be tweeting throughout. Using the word "tweeting" in a sentence always makes me feel like kind of a douchebag. As does using the word "douchebag" in a sentence. Okay, I should stop now.

Anyway, I used to go to Starfest all the time when I was a kid, so I'm looking forward to revisiting it. Though apparently it's in a new venue? No more Holiday Inn? :(. Oh well. Shall still be awesome.

First, from Io9 on Friday, "I Love Battlestar Galactica", a song by a guy named Jonathan Mann who writes weird songs and sings them while wearing tiny shorts. Io9 warned me that if I watched the video, the song would be stuck in my head. And Io9. Was right. WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK!

So my question of the day on Twitter yesterday was "What are your top 5 TV shows of all time?" and I got some very interesting answers. Since I'd like to post both the winners and all the shows that got just one vote, I'm deciding to write it up in a post.

First of all, the shout outs. These shows all only got one vote, but it was such a variety I had to post them all. And get this - no one said Friends. I wouldn't put Friends in my top 10, but it was still interesting to me that none of the people who responded hold Friends in any particular high regard. And only one MASH! And one Star Trek! One person specified The Office UK, the others didn't pick one way or the other, so I'm just throwing it up there as one whole thing. Pretty eclectic group here, with TWO animated shows about superheroes. Shows that I adore and are happy to see getting some love :). Also one of my personal favorites makes the honorable mention list - Spaced, starring Simon Pegg & Nick Frost and directed by Edgar Wright, all of Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz fame. The show is MADE for geeks. I've seen every episode three times. Once all the way through with the homage-o-meter on, which explains every single reference. It's badass.

5th Place: Quantum Leap/The Wire/Seinfeld/Dr. Who/Slings & Arrows/Price is Right

Probably the only time we'll see The Wire & The Price is Right on a list together. For that matter, I don't know when else we'd see Quantum Leap & Seinfeld on a list together or Dr. Who and the Canadian show about a Shakespearean theater troupe, Slings & Arrows. Odd. But awesome.

4th Place: Six Feet Under/Firefly

Lots of love for these two shows, much more than I was expecting! Six Feet Under I watched on and off throughout its run and I've seen every episode of Firefly... on DVD, I'm sad to say. Sorry, Joss. I'll never betray you again. Can anyone figure out where this list is going yet?

3rd Place: Arrested Development/Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Now THAT'S a twosome I can get behind. One of the funniest, most original comedies ever produced and the show that molded my fragile young middle to high school mind. Glad the Twitterverse agrees with me there.

2nd Place: Lost

A show that hasn't even been completed yet makes the 2nd place spot! I mean, it's definitely one of my all time favorite shows and I have faith that they will manage not to fuck it up in the season and a half we have left. I hope. Please. Please don't fuck it up.

Which leaves only first place, and I think the pick is fairly obvious considering the events of last week...

1st Place: Battlestar Galatica (2003)

Who knows if we will all still have this show on our list a year from now (I mean...I will...it's Battlestar...there's a Starbuck art print on my wall and mini mate Lee is sitting next to my computer...with my mini mate Six and my Starbuck dog tag...okay I may have a problem) but it racked up the most points, just barely edging out Lost for the win. All Of This Has Happened Before And All Of This Will Happen Again [Recap/Round Up]

Happened before when Buffy ended. Will happen again when Lost ends. DAMN YOU, AMAZING TELEVISION MAKING ME CRY CAUSE YOU WON'T BE ON THE AIR ANYMORE.

For the record, I loved the finale. I thought it was amazing. I was satisfied with the answers I got and any answers I didn't get I was happy to read a Ron Moore interview or any recaps to find em out. The shipper in me SQUEEd at all the couples getting to be together in the end (or have at least some time to be loving, relaxed & at peace together, Adama/Roslin), especially Baltar redeeming himself, coming to terms with his roots & winning Caprica 6 and getting to see the beginning of Lee and Kara's destructive and never-quite-fulfilled relationship. Those were some of my favorite scenes, seeing how careless and cynical Lee and Kara (and hey, Baltar and 6 too, to a degree) used to be compared to the leaders & heroes they became.

At first I thought Kara came back as the same thing Head Six/Head Baltar were, but turns out she IS a different entity. She came back in the flesh, literally resurrected, to complete her journey. Angel? Messiah figure? I'm fine with it not being confirmed. How awkward would have that have been? "So, guess this has been my journey since birth and God's plan was always to resurrect me so I could leads humans to their end! Their HAPPY endING. Get it?" So yeah, needless to say, I like that it was vague. And that Lee understood and said goodbye.

Could I have done without the last 3 minutes? Sure. But I didn't mind it. Plus you know if it hadn't been there, people would have been complaining about not getting a concrete answer to the direct connection to our time. And I thought it was cool to see Angel Six & Baltar in modern day New York and I can't disagree that it's pretty stupid of us to insist on creating Artificial Intelligence when we've been consistently warned that it's gonna turn on us one day.

But anyway, what made the show for me wasn't the mythology or the answering of questions, it was all the character relationships & payoffs. Chief killing Tory, Boomer turning coat once more, but for the right side this time, Athena getting her revenge, Starbuck saying goodbye to Anders, Adama putting his wedding ring on his heavenly Roslin, where it belongs, Baltar finally becoming the person he was meant to be, earning the equally changed Six in the process, Ellen & Tigh finally getting to retire for real and be together, and to the tune of the original Battlestar theme, the fleet we've all come to know and love and its leader, the Galactica, heading off into the sun, closing that chapter forever. The dying leader really did lead the humans to Earth. It just wasn't Roslin. It was Galactica herself. When I rewatched my favorite moments of the finale last night, those were the moments I was drawn to, those were the moments that had me in tears even harder the secone time and those are the moments that have always made the show for me.

Before I leave you with some great finale links that should keep you busy today, I posit this question: So how did Frak become the word we know it to be today? Could the natives initially not pronounce "r" and the new word just stuck? And fitting that the dude with the randomly Scotch-Irish first name ends up in Scotland, no?

Also the Racetrack sending the nukes into the Colony? Those aren't odds. Safe to say after this finale, that was a greater hand at work. Also, I do think Kara was honored with her ending. Get Your Final Battlestar Fix Before It All Comes To An End [Round-Up]

In honor of Battlestar Galactica coming to a close tonight, here a whole bunch of links to some Battlestar delight from all over the net.

At the AV Club we have Remember That Thing?: All the forgotten Battlestar Galactica factoids you need to enjoy the finale, maybe. Here you can find a bunch of handy dandy reminders of facts we may have forgotten in the six years since the mini-series first ended. Don't know how much any of these will play into the finale, but it definitely made me realize I have forgotten quite a bit of BSG's smaller plot points.

At Io9, we have 12 Plotholes That Must Be Filled in the Battlestar Finale. They bring some really important questions, some of which we may have even forgotten about. These include, but are not limited to:
- What exactly is the Cylons' plan?
- What is Starbuck?
- Where do Baltar's loyalties actually lie?
- Why do Cylons have to be in love in order to reproduce?

I'd like to add to that with a few questions of my own
- What's the deal with the opera house/Roslin's visions/the prophecies?
- What is Daniel's link to anything? (Unfortunately we know the answer to that one...)
- Where do Boomer's loyalties actually lie?
- Who is Starbuck's soulmate? She's had so many people in love/infatuated/sleep with her, I feel like the answers's gotta somewhat factor into a finale
- It's all happened before and it will all happen again - will we see this played out?

Do I think we'll get answers to all of these questions? Of course not. But it would be nice to get some.

On a personal note, it really hit me earlier that one of my favorite shows of all time is coming to an end tonight and it made me really sad. I discovered Battlestar on DVD in 2005, subsequently became obsessed and never looked back. I introduced the show to just about all of my friends & my boyfriend who also subsequently became obsessed with it :). I'm happy that so many people, people who don't even consider themselves Sci Fi fans have discovered the show and love it as much as I do. I've always identified with Starbuck and she remains one of my favorite female characters of all time. Though david disagrees with me on that one. I'm so happy I'm hopefully going to the Paley Center BSG/Caprica panel in April so I can properly say goodbye to the show I love so much. I'm also thrilled that I have my BSG toaster, my Lee/Kara minimates, my Starbuck art print, my "I'm the Final Cylon" necklace, my limited edition BSG sketched cover comic book, my BSG shirt, my BSG pins and more. It's been an amazing four years (six years for others) of geeking out to this show and tracking down random merchandise. And it'll all be over in six hours. :(

So I was finally catching up on my comics...I'm about three months behind, so I have A LOT to catch up on. Since I was only two issues behind on Buffy Season 8, I read those first. david's day in brief [Round Up]

observe the twitter mentality (www.twitter.com/poosclouds) already ransacking my motivation to type a series of interconnected sentences. so here is my daily download of sorts, a fond look back at the day that was as filtered through my hairy brain (ew). not all of these thoughts are of the most fan-ish (fanny?) nature, but i was all super jealous for not being at wondercon and want to show the world that i can has my own wondercon... in my MIND. feel free to imagine that noxious end of the show jay leno music playing in the background as you read this.



- is it just me or do the trailers / commercials for "the haunting in connecticut" make you pee just a little bit?

- jimmy fallon premiered and for the most part failed as expected. late night should be a snarky tucking in of sorts, and his jangled nerves and woeful bits (the less said about "lick it for 10," the better) didn't help matters... but it was pleasant enough and he's a reasonably funny fellow... these things take time (the almighty conan's first shows weren't exactly rapturously received) and i'll definitely be tuning in when i can. the roots as house band was a masterstroke but i can't see them staying all that long.

- grizzly bear's third LP "veckatimest" leaked (lead singer ed droste was a sad yet resigned panda over at his twitter ). the leak is a wee bit poopy but the music is obviously majestic. "two weeks," "ready, able", "while you wait for the others," and "foreground" are instantly recognizable barn-burners and the whole thing is gonna sound oodles better on the recordings proper. check it out over at bolachasgratis.baywords.com

- neko case's delovely and haunting LP "middle cyclone" was released today, as was marissa nadler's gorgeous "little hells." buy buy buy!

- i09 has a fascinating little compilation / analysis of early watchmen reactions from two very different communities. some serious food for thought for all fanboys and girls planning on expounding upon the film over the next few days... take a step back and pick your words wisely before diving into that fray - harry knowles has already and inevitably unleashed enough wantonly reckless geek glee for the lot of you. but seriously, i can think of no greater endorsement of a film than an anthony lane pan... sheesh. i'm excited. buy buy buy!

- LQ preaches that this week's battlestar was actually pretty good... i sure hope so cause i don't think i'm alone when i say that the past few episodes have been silly-frappy. will watch and report back.

- i like dollhouse! it's like the jimmy fallon of joss whedon shows. is it unfair to think that he wants to hop on the good foot and do the bad thing with eliza dushku? yes. do i think that anyway? super yes. last week's episode was silly town, usa, but i enjoyed the poo out of it. who is alpha??? what is happening??? why is new television airing on a friday night???? so many questions!



- killzone 2 is killzone 2. so far there is only one kind of bad dude (he has a red shiny helmet so i know he's not a good dude) and i shoot at him with bullets from 3 or 4 different guns until he stops shooting me back. but the graphics are cray-cray and it's fun enough even if it's a bit drab and the interior environs are a lot more tense to bop around than the outdoor squares. haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but so far much prefer the mechanics of Resistance.

- go to itunes and buy "this lamb sells condos" by final fantasy. every time you don't do this, a kitten gets its wings... and uses those wings to fly into second storey windows and eat sleeping orphan babies. don't let that happen. See full post

Paley TV Festival Announces Lineup - LQ Dies [Geekgasm]

You know when like, you are looking forward to something, and then suddenly it becomes super tangible and you are like OMFG and die a little inside?


Thats what happened today when the Paley Center send me a lil email about their lineup this year. I've always wanted to go and as it happens, I will be in LA for most of the fest this year. So. I'm gonna go.

Will the Q&A turn into one massive orgy? And obviously, if I were there on the 24th, I'd hit up Swingtown as I effing loved that show.
