Paul F Tompkins & James Urbaniak FTW! [Interview]

When I attended the Thrilling Adventure Hour last month, I had the pleasure of getting to sit down with Paul F Tompkins & James Urbaniak, two longtime Workjuice Players who also happen to be in a film called Drones, written by Acker & Blacker, the same boys who write Thrilling Adventure Hour. Tompkins & Urbaniak were both incredibly delightful and easy to talk to - we got into both projects as well as what their favorite things from 2010 were...a quick chat, but super fun. I can't encourage you enough to buy your tickets to the February Thrilling Adventure Hour if you live in the LA area! See these two in action!

(I'm introduced as being from All Things Fangirl & Cineboobs)
They're lady websites in case you couldn't tell

J: I had a feeling!

P: I bet there's some confused dudes that go there though!

J: Co-opting the terminology for your own purposes

So how did you guys get involved in all this? In it from the beginning?

J: He was in it way before me

P: I was in the very first one, way back when, I was one of the founding Workjuice Players, which I guess is coming on 5 years now? Something like that? And I've known, first Ben Acker, for a long time, and then met Ben Blacker, It's funny, I THINK, through this show. I may have met him before then, but it's hard to remember sometimes, because there's so many people that you've known for so long, you kind of can't remember where they came in in your own personal timeline.

J: And I moved to LA from NY 3 and a half years ago, and then probably sometime within the first year, I had met Acker, I'm on a show called The Venture Brothers on Adult Swim, and he knew that show, I guess he knew who I was and he invited me to come see this and I loved it and then he said well we'd love you to do one, then I did one, then he asked me back the next month, and then in short order, I just became a regular and I've done them all since then, except a couple times when I was out of town and I think I was sick once.

The rest after the jump!

Evil Ex #7 Goes Back To Brooklyn

HBO's Bored to Death is coming back! September 26th at 10pm! Woot!

I adore so many people in this cast as human beings and actors, and the first season was certainly enjoyable enough to get me watching season two. I'd pretty much watch Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis do anything, but it's nice that this anything is a well written HBO show.

Below is a behind the scenes look at the show, followed by a peak at the comic Super-Ray, made by Ray (Zach Galifianakis) in world, and was created by Jonathan Ames (showrunner) and Dean Haspiel in real life. Enjoys!

Wonderwall's Jr Reporter Cracks Up Jason Segel

Wonderwall's ace junior reporter, Lucy, recently interviewed Jason Segal about his new movie, Despicable Me. When I saw a tweet today from @UniversalPics that contained the words "Wonderwall" and "Lucy" I IMMEDIATELY had to watch because I used to babysit the dynamo journalist-in-the-making Lucy and yes, she's just as awesome as she seems. She cracks Jason Segal up. Which means she wins ALL the points.

Watch the adorableness for yourself below and be sure to follow @WonderwallMSN for more Lucyfied reports!

Some "Never Seen Lost" Genius For You

"It’s also clear this week that this is all a set up for the different spin offs ABC has planned for it’s fall line up.  Here is the list:
  • Miles and Sawyer star in a crime drama called “Not Without My Sawyer”.  Kate guest stars as a former crook turned informant. Alternate title: “A Miles in his Shoes”
  • Claire stars in a dramedy called “Up Over” (instead of Down Under) about a single Australia mom learning about life and love in Los Angeles. It’s a heartfelt comedy with heartfelt laughs.  Desmond plays the love interest.  Claire thinks they could never be more than friends.
  • Sun and Jin star in a female-scaling-the-corporate-ladder drama called “The Rising Sun”.  It’s about how Sun has to fight against stereotypes and tradition to be the breadwinner in her family and coping with Jin’s mixed support and jealousy.  Think Ally McBeal but not funny.  So just like Ally McBeal. Zing!
  • Linus and Locke star in a TV version of the movie “Stand By Me”.
  • Jack stars in the medical dromcom (patent pending) “Neuroses”.  He’s a single dad and successful surgeon.  He seemingly has it all.  Except love.  Kinda like Gray’s Anatomy ate the Deep End washed it down with some ER then had House for dessert"

Community Gets Meta

There was a very meta moment on Community this week, wherein two characters made a sly reference to the fact that Community keeps coming up against Glee in all these "Best New Show" polls & contests. So how DO Jeff & Pierce feel about the hit Fox show?

Will Glee retaliate? Which show is YOUR favorite?

CHUCK LORRE PRODUCTIONS, #280

From tonight's Big Bang Theory - a must read, especially for those of you who have actually thought any of these before. The closest I come is the classic rock bit.

CHUCK LORRE PRODUCTIONS, #280

You know you're getting old when... You throw your back out on the toilet. You shave your ears. Your second wife calls your first wife “ma’am.” You're genuinely excited when your prescriptions arrive in the mail. You read the obits in the newspaper to check the ages of the dead people. You read a newspaper. You're bummed out that the smokin’ hot chick from Body Heat now looks like William Shatner in drag. You say “bummed out.” Women your age have real breasts and artificial hips. Masturbation leaves you winded. You try to amuse the kid hooking up your Blu-ray player by telling him about Betamax. You pee in morse code -- dots and dashes -- and have to look down to see when you’re done. Your car radio is set to “classic rock” so you have something to switch to during NPR pledge drives. Your doctor says things like, “that’s normal for a man your age” and “consider yourself lucky.” Beneath your chin is what appears to be a neck skin hammock. Beneath your penis is what appears to be two ping pong balls hanging from a flesh-colored bolo tie. You choose your new car because it offers great lumbar support and convenient cup holders. Watching “The Who” perform at the Superbowl made you inconsolably sad. You wonder if the orgasm you're about to have will actually end your life. Your doctor tells you a new medication will reduce the amount of semen in your body and your only response is, “so what.” Your car radio is set to “classic rock” so you have something to... oh, wait, I already did that one.

Topless Robot Holds A Contest - I Giggle For 10 Minutes Straight

Topless Robot makes me giggle like a gaggle of 3rd graders. Giggle gaggle!

Rob held a contest recently about...well I think about geeky fake headlines, is the impression I got. (editor's note: it was for Wishful TR Headlines) And I couldn't stop laughing, COULD NOT STOP. All Things Fangirl Writer Brokah Her Fingah [Video of the Moment]

This is nothing short of brilliant.

All Things Fangirl writer, NYU alum, and all around great gal TooAdorkable is the star of this video, asserting herself as a force to be reckoned with at the age of two. The video features her trying to explain to her mother that she "brokah" her "fingah" but when mommy can't stop laughing, mini-adorkable gets VERY upset. Also check out the sly looks to the camera. Someone knows she's being filmed! Saavy toddler, you!

The Best Show This Week (11/1)

As some of you may know, I watch 26 shows, not including ones currently off air (i.e. Lost, Chuck, True Blood). That's A LOT of television. I've done the precise math - 22 minutes per sitcom and 44 minutes per drama and it comes out to 16 hours of television a week.

Of these 26 shows, a few always seem to rise to the top every week & stake their claim as the best. So I've decided that every week, I'll post my nomination for best show of the week. (It should be noted - this honor goes to the episode every week that stands out as the best one of its series so far this season, not necessarily the best compared to every other show. Modern Family every week is better than most other shows, but it'll only end up here when it airs its best episode yet :). )

This week belongs to 30 Rock, Season 4, Episode 4: Audition Day

Perfectly written & executed and featuring stellar work from just about everyone in the entire cast, Audition Day had me laughing at loud over & over. Some of my favorite bits -

Tracy calling Jenna "Jennifer M."

Luggage Store Jenna

"The new cast member is evil, Tracy!"
"The new cast member is Evil Tracy?!"

"What play is that?"

The myriad of inside NYC subway jokes including "Good afternoon ladies & gentlemen, sorry to bother you, my name is Jack...I'm not a drug addict...god bless you and have a good day."

"FLOODGATE WHEELS ARE HORIZONTAL"

Brian Williams

Kathy pulling a Susan Boyle

Tracy & Jenna's adventure to find funny people on the streets of New York City, especially Belandra? I wanna say?

"I only have the one pair and I sleep in them!"

"Was describing your sandwich necessary to our understanding what happened?"

"Is that the opposite of prevail?"

"Hey Dot Com, Nice to meet you."
"Why would he say that to me??"

The Jayden Michael Tyler switcharoo. Jenna was right!

"Oh no! What is wrong with them?!"

"He's crazy, we can't hire him!"
"Who, Brian Williams?"

"We are hiring the robot. On the show. To act."

Watch the episode for yourself below!

Other fantastic bits of TV this week include Mad Men's brilliant penultimate episode for season 3, The Grown-Ups & Flash Forward's bit of a game changer in episode 7, The Gift. See full post

Why Is 6 Afraid of 7?

You've all heard that old joke right? Well here is a trailer for the film 789. I mean, it's not for a real film...I'm pretty sure...but the trailer is spot on & hilarious. I found out about it because someone I went to high school with (who actually happens to be very cool!) composed the score. Enjoy!
