And the Best Actors Are! Not the Best Actors [Quick Thought]

So the movie that won Best Ensemble at the SAG Awards has not a single performance nominated for an Oscar and may well have the weakest acting in an Oscar film this year.

Update: From Erik Lundegaard's blog,

Even better was host Nathaniel R's live-blogging of the SAG noms, and his disappointment that "Milk" didn't win the cast award. I wrote about the SAGs this morning, but dispassionately, as Oscar indicators. Nathaniel helped push me off my fence. Because he's right. Both "Milk" and "Slumdog" are very good movies, and I'll be fine if "Slumdog" wins best picture, but if we're talking about ensemble cast acting, "Milk," with Penn, Franco, Hirsch, et al., has it all over "Slumdog," which is a director's movie. Freida Pinto is stunning, lovely to look at, and her part works, but... It ain't the same league.

And funny...he's not even a fangirl!

your taste and judgement is terrible. this is why you're fangirls and nothing more and far more experienced and intelligent people are making the decisions about winners.

We may be fangirls, but at least we're not dicks. See, someday, given our current career tracks, we will certainly be more experienced, and very well may be making decisions about things that are, I hope, far more important than who's winning what self congratulatory award.

You, on the other hand, will probably always be a dick.

I almost deleted that comment, but I like a little conflict

And you know, if our taste and judgement are terrible for loving things like Battlestar Galactica & Let the Right One and not loving things like Slumdog Millionaire and Spiderman 3...then I'm proud to have terrible taste :)

I always wonder what draws outsiders into blogs to make random stupid comments. Apparently all you have to do is say Slumdog Millionaire has weak acting! Which, by the way, it does.

In addition - it's not my opinion that no Slumdog actors got Oscar nominations. It's fact. Has nothing to do with taste.

For the record, I'm not much of a fanboy, unless we're talking Star Wars. I like Battlestar AND Slumdog. I walk the line.

Happy to see some visitors. Welcome TGWHE, but watch the flaming please.

Also, Erudite, nice Winston Churchill reference!

Thanks, boo!

And our first troll, isn't it exciting? It even uses the correct versions of 'your' and 'you're'! Which, as was pointed out to me by another of our readers, Scott, is a paradox of mind-boggling proportions!

Yeah, I liked Slumdog (not to the extent that many did, but I liked it), but I agree with Lundegaard - it was a director's movie. . The acting in it is just really not that special. I thought Anil Kapoor was great as the Millionaire host, but an ensemble award? Meh.

I completely agree. Milk should have totally won ensemble, just like Kate Winslet should have won for Revolutionary Road even though she wasn't nominated. (do the academys hate that movie for some reason I don't understand?!) I liked Slumdog, but I just don't get why everyone is throwing so many awards at them. humfpt!
